Past

Shining Star Sports began with one boys AAU team in 2001, coached by Alex Meacham. The organization has been growing by an average of two teams each year. Although there could have been a multitude of teams from the beginning and through years past, in order to preserve the integrity of the mission of the organization, the staff felt that fast growth would not help to accomplish the long term goals. The blueprint for success has been finding qualified staff members, recruiting well-rounded kids, and growing the organization accordingly

The 2007 season was our best year to date for the Boys AAU program. There were twelve teams across Ohio and Kentucky , ranging in age from 13-17. Half of those teams qualified for National Championship Tournaments in their age group. Teams traveled to nationally recognized tournaments in Tennessee , Florida , Nevada , Ohio , Indiana , and Kentucky . Additionally, our coaching staff has grown to include eight coaches who are currently employed at local schools.

Present

In 2008, we maintain our strong Ohio and Northern Kentucky chapters and we have grown from 13 teams last season to 19 teams this season.

Future

While the future presents challenges as we grow, it also presents great opportunities for everyone involved in Shining Star. We plan to expand our organization to grow the girls AAU program in both Ohio and Kentucky at all age levels.

Our future also relies on our past through our Alumni base which continues to grow as expected. We now claim 115 Alumni, with 104 of them attending college, 52 of those playing college basketball at some level. Shining Star Sports boasts over 20 alums who have come back to help coach team within the organization. A true testament to our strength and dedication!
